Alumni News

Gwyn Kooy-Smith has updated us on two of Brookwood’s finest, her sons Camden and Pieter, and two of your 2008 coaches. Read along below and check out the pics.

Camden

Camden is enjoying his first year at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. He is in the premed program and did very well his first semester, receiving the highest grade a student has ever made there in his biology course. He is a member of the W&L swim team and is enjoying his first season.

Since completing melanoma therapy, he has been constantly improving his strength and his times. Camden swims 100 fly, 100 back, and 100 freestyle and is a member of a relay team. He has made best times in his freestyle and is close to his fastest in back and butterfly. He has already knocked off 5 seconds in his 100 fly, and his coach expects him to take off 3 more.

The team took a training trip to LA and swam against several teams, coming in first place. His team has beat every team that they have swum so far. You may follow W&L swimming by going to the following website:www.wlu.edu and click on athletics and then men’s swimming. He will be swimming two meets in Charlotte at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center-January 10 at 3PM and February 11-14 for their championships. You may email Cam at smithc@wlu.edu

Pieter

Pieter has just completed the first semester of his Junior year at Rhodes College in Memphis TN. Like Camden, he has had a good semester, academcially. Pieter is a Theatre Major and has the lead role in the play, “Fat Pig,” which will be performed in February.

He is a member of the Rhodes men’s swim team. The team is small and because of that, it is difficult for them to win meets, but this season has been the team’s most successful. They recently placed 4th out of 10 teams at the DePauw Invitational. This year their “training trip” is at Rhodes because they actually get more training done swimming at home. Piet was MVP last year.

At any given meet, he may swim a variety of individual events and two relays. His favorite and best events are the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400IM. He has been training hard and is in the best shape he has ever been. He hopes to improve his times and places at SCAC Championships, which will be Feb 11-14 in Nashville, TN. You may follow Rhodes swimming at www.rhodes.edu and click on athletics and then men’s swimming. Pieter’s email address is smipc@rhodes.edu.
